100 agri varsity staff to shift to Guntur

More than a 100-odd employees presently working in Agriculture University in Rajendranagar, Hyderabad will soon be soon shifting to an apartment building situated close to new Agriculture University campus for which foundation stone was laid by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu some time ago. Since the present campus of Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) is being upgraded into a full-fledged State agriculture university.

The construction activity of the university buildings is expected to commence from early 2016 and until such time the buildings are constructed to house the university departments and research institutes, the university office of the Vice-chancellor and Registrar will be operating from a private apartment complex of the ESR Construction Company which build a couple of apartment blocks at the Inner Ring road on the Amaravati road, to house the university offices and the 100-odd employees who would be shifting to the new office complex by June 2016. Vice-chancellor of the university Dr.A Padmaraju will be operating from the new university office complex from June onwards.

The RARS which is being upgraded into an Agriculture University will be spread across 500 acres of land available at the premises. It will be the only agriculture university for the State catering to the interests of Rayalaseema farmers who suffer due to drought conditions and the coastal districts which are prone to floods and natural calamities.

The Director of RARS Edara Narayana talking to The Hans India says that the university centrally located between Rayalaseema and the coastal districts would address the needs of both the regions with a diametrically opposite climatic conditions and advise the farmers of both the regions and develop technologies and multiple crop hybrid seeds suitable to the soils of both the regions. The university will be developed on par with the Agriculture University at Hyderabad and will cater to the requirements of Andhra Pradesh farmers.

Presently, the university has about Rs 100 crore at its disposal for undertaking building works but the university needs not only needs just buildings but also full-fledged faculty, research projects, central library, national important laboratories, administration blocks, advanced PG centres, national and international funding projects, crop technology and solar technologies and institutions of national importance at its campus.

The university requires according to internal estimates a reasonable Rs 500 crore to make a humble beginning for development of infrastructure and introduce multiple courses. New recruitment of faculty members, office staff and attracting research institutes of national and international repute would go a long way in establishing the university into a state of-the- art technology university by introducing latest technologies in agriculture, seeds and crop and water management.
