Chittoor: Condemning the involvement of political leaders in call money scandal, the AITUC activists staged a dharna at Gandhi Statue here on Friday. They demanded Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to order for the CBI probe into call money scam.

Speaking on the occasion, AITUC district secretary Nagaraj alleged that the leaders of the ruling TDP have played an active role in the call money racket. He said that the AITUC would intensify the agitation until the accused in call money racket are behind bars. He stated that the TDP government gave free hand to money lenders to lend money to poor for abnormal rate of interest. He asked the State government to take stern action against the money lenders by enacting legislation. Nagaraj also said that call money business is a common phenomenon in the urban areas where influential and rich are exploiting the financial needs of the poor.

CITU district president Chaithanya said that the financial institutions have failed to lend their active support to the poor resulting scandals like call money. He alleged that certain police officials are safeguarding the interests of the money lenders. He demanded that the TDP government should order for CBI probe into call money scandal. The leaders declared that the AITUC would lay siege to the Collectorate on December 28 demanding probe into call money scandal.
