Vijayawada: Several MPs boycotted the railway pre-budget proposals meeting convened by South Central Railway General Manager Ravindra Gupta here on Thursday, in protest against the neglect of railway projects in Andhra Pradesh.

The MPs expressed ire that the railway authorities are not considering their proposals on new trains and railway lines in the State for the last several years.

When the meeting started at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday, six MPs including Kesineni Srinivas, Konakalla Narayana Rao, J C Diwakar Reddy, Tota Narasimham, N Kistappa and Maganti Venkateswara Rao, boycotted the meeting at 11 a.m. in protest against the neglect of railway projects in the State.

Expressing ire over the negligent attitude of railway authorities towards Andhra Pradesh, the MPs alleged that the railway authorities failed to complete several pending projects in the State. They said that such name sake meetings serve no purpose. Though the railway authorities invited 32 MPs, only 16 MPs attended the meeting on Thursday.

However, the General Manager conducted the meeting with the remaining MPs including Galla Jayadev, Muralimohan, Malyadri, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, Avinash Reddy, Y V Subba Reddy, Mekapati Rajmohan Reddy, B Renuka, Gokaraju Ganga Raju and others.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Y V Subba Reddy said that the officials should start the Nadikudi-Srikalahasti railway line works. He said that there was positive response from the railways for the Yerraguntla-Nandyal line.

MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy demanded a new train from Vijayawada to Bangalore. MP Muralimohan said that there was no maintenance of rail-cum-road bridge in Rajahmundry. MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao said that a new train should be introduced from Guntur to Shirdi. He demanded new railway zone between Vijayawada and Guntur.

South Central Railway General Manager Ravindra Gupta said that the MPs demanded connectivity to Amaravati capital from all parts of the State. He said that the railway officials already conducted a survey and submitted proposals for connectivity to Amaravati capital. He said that the proposals would be sent to railway ministry.

The General Manager said that a new terminal would be constructed at Tirupati for the convenience of devotees. He said the railways would introduce special trains during Krishna pushkaralu.

Commenting on the third line between Duvvada and Gudur, the South Central Railway General Manager said that the officials are preparing estimates for the project.
