Kakinada: Former vice-chancellor of JNTU-K Prof Allam Appa Rao said that the government should issue an ordinance on Kapu quota in the best interests of the Kapu community.

Addressing the media here on Friday, he said that the government can consider the recommendations of the Puttaswamy panel, which was formed in 1993 through an Assembly Act, headed by Justice Puttaswamy for dealing with issues related to BCs.

He said since the BJP and Congress are also supporting the demand for inclusion of Kapus in BC list, it will not be a tough task for the TDP government to pass the bill favouring reservation for Kapus in Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

The former V-C also advised the government to take a leaf out of the recommendations of Karnataka Permanent Backward Classes Commission, which had included Kapus in BC list.
