Ministers Palle Raghunatha Reddy and Paritala Sunitha on Monday directed officials of the Rural Water Supply department to work with a plan from now itself to ensure that there is no water shortage in this summer, with an observation that a drop of water is more valuable than blood.

Addressing a review meeting of RWS officials along with Collector Kona Sasidhar, Palle asked them to compulsorily provide water supply to 1,001 gram panchayats and 3,200 villages. Cost should not be a constraint as there is no shortage of funds, he said while stressing that people should not face hardship.
Palle directed officials to visit village to assess requirement of tanks, borewells including those which need repair and submit a report within 15 days. He said funds for drinking water schemes were available with the Sarpanches and MPTC members. Officials should hold talks with these people’s representatives for providing the vital needs of people. The Minister advised officials to opt for immediate repair of borewells.
The Minister wanted officials to accord priority to supply drinking water to government schools and hostels, while stressing that there should not be any wastage. Conventions should be organised spread the message of avoiding wastage. He asked them to assess the presence of fluoride in drinking water and submit details.
Sunitha called for steps from now on to solve water shortage, while stressing the need for avoiding wastage. Funds available with the Sarpanches should be utilised. She said arrangements for water supply to cattle should be made. The Minister stated that tankers should be utilised effectively for tackling water shortage in 35 villages. She assured officials that the pending water supply bills would be shortly released.
Sasidhar advised officials to take steps as they did last year to successfully tackle water shortage, taking them as inspiration. The quantity of water should be kept ready depending on the needs of people. He called for immediate repair of borewells and deepening them, where required. If needed supply by tankers should be taken up.
