The state-of-the-art Government maternity and child health centre, which was inaugurated by none other than Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on January 1, faced closure four days after the inauguration.
Eluru: The state-of-the-art Government maternity and child health centre, which was inaugurated by none other than Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on January 1, faced closure four days after the inauguration.
As the hospital, which was built at a cost of Rs 10 crore, was now under lock and key, as a result, expectant mothers reaching here to get diagnostic tests have to approach private diagnostic centres for want of medical officers and other technical staff.
There is no development in the hospital functioning though District Collector K Bhaskar is the hospital development committee chairman.
The people of the district are incensed at the closure of the hospital, contrary to the promises made by the Chief Minister that he will groom it as a smart hospital. The Chief Minister also went one step ahead to appoint a health administrator for the hospital, but went back on the promise. The people of West Godavari district in general and those of Eluru in particular are felt cheated. The hospital remained under lock and key for the last two months.
Speaking to The Hans India, Talli Bidda Express van driver who wished to remain anonymous said that the hospital remained locked four days after its inauguration. For want of medical officials, the hospital remained non-functional, he added.
A dalit leader Mamuduri Mahankali, told ‘The Hans India’ that the Chief Minister launched Talli Bidda Express scheme on a grand scale perhaps only to dupe the people. A huge amount of public money has been expended on the project. Since the hospital remained closed so far, the medical equipment is likely to get damaged. He demanded the State government to get up from the deep slumber and render free medical services to the needy.
