Visakhapatnam: The Registration Department in the State is aiming at double digit growth and there was no truth in the allegations that the department is being privatised, said Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Stamps and Registrations K E Krishna Murthy.

Addressing a meeting after inaugurating new premises of sub-registrar office at Gajuwaka here on Friday, the Minister said the registration department has a target of earning Rs 3,500 in the current financial year and achieved Rs 3,200 crore till date and expected to reach the target by end of this month, he added.

``It is unfortunate that there are complaints of corruption in the department. A section of officers are indulging in irregularities and they will be prevented henceforth,’’ the Minister said. He said AP was the first State in India to introduce online system which facilitates the people to register their lands and houses in any part of the State.

Regarding implementation of Gajuwaka House Committee report for free registration of encroached government lands pending since decades, the Minister said the issue would be resolved by end of May and the government would issue a GO in this regard soon.

Director General Inspector of Stamps and Duties P Venkatarama Reddy said revolutionary changes have been brought in the department to protect the lands of the farmers in the State.
