Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided to take the help of Chinese consultancy for the beautification of canal bunds in the city. A delegation of GICC, the Chinese consultancy, met the Municipal Commissioner, G Veerapandiyan, on Thursday. It made a PowerPoint presentation on the activities of the company and expressed its willingness to prepare project report for the beautification of parks and river bunds.

The Commissioner held discussions with the Chinese team and asked it to submit a project report on the beautification of 2.1-km-long bund along Krishna river from Prakasam barrage to Gollapudi. The Commissioner told the visiting team that Pushkaralu is very important event and beautification works should be completed on priority basis. He said the VMC was also taking up mega project of beautification of 50.5-km along three canals Ryves canal, Eluru canal and Bandar canal and asked the visiting team to prepare project report on the beautification of canals and also a six acres park located in Payakapuram.

The VMC is also planning to extend the beautification work of Ryves canal bunds up to Gannavaram, which is about 18 km from the city. The civic body is also planning to enhance greenery in the open spaces of the city, parks, central dividers and other areas. There is a plan for the development of six acres park located in Payakapuram.

The Chinese delegation has recently met the revenue officials and proposed to prepare project report for the beautification of Pushkaram ghats along the Krishna river in the city. The Chief Minister, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, earlier directed the VMC officials to take up the work of beautification of canals and the State government would extend the support.
