Visakhapatnam: President of Uttarandhra Home Guards Welfare Association N Ramakrishna Yadav condoled the death of Telangana State Home Guards Welfare Association leader and former president of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Home Guards Welfare Association U Balaraju Yadav.

Balaraju yadav (45), who was attached to the Mahankali police station and employed at Mahankali temple in Hyderabad, was reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison while on duty at the temple on Thursday due to financial problems. Uttarandhra Association leader Ramakrishna said here on Friday that Balaraju Yadav was an able leader who fought for the welfare of home guards.

He informed that during the Assembly session when N Kiran Kumar Reddy was the Chief Minister, Balaraju had attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison demanding hike in wages of home guards which was kept pending since long time. However, he was survived with the immediate medical attention and the government has increased the wages.

Ramakrishna felt that severe financial problem would have driven him to take the extreme step and appealed to both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments to take necessary welfare measures with regard to the welfare of home guards to prevent such incidents as home guards, too, were discharging duties on par with the police. “We have lost an able trade union leader, who used to fight for home guards in a disciplined manner”, he added.
