Manjunatha Commission to tour districts from June 1

Pithapuram: Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa informed that the Manjunatha Commission would tour rural areas of the State from June 1 to 15 to elicit people’s opinion on inclusion of Kapus among the list of Backward Classes.
Speaking to press persons here on Thursday, he said that the State government was sincere on inclusion of the Kapus among the BCs and hence allocated Rs 1000 crore in the budget for the Kapu Corporation. Of the total amount, Rs 500 crore would be spent for educational development of the Kapus and the rest of the amount for extending loans to Kapus.
The government has plans to construct five marriage halls for Kapus each costing not less than Rs 5 crore, he said adding that the State government is more concerned than that of those spearheading the movement seeking BC status for the Kapus.
On TDP mini Mahanadu slated to be held between May 22 and 24 in districts, he said all arrangements were being made for the purpose. As part of the programme, a mini Mahanadu would be held at Kakinanda for East Godavari district on May 23. He exhorted the party rank and file to take part in the programme on a grand scale.
Earlier, leading a team to Gollaprolu to study drought impact, he said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on many occasions to press for the special status to the State.
He advised YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy to mount pressure on the Prime Minister staging a dharna in the nation’s capital instead of staging dharnas in the State. The special status could be realised only when the government and NGOs raise their voice seeking the special status, he asserted.
