Vijayawada: The State government issued orders fixing five-day week for the Secretariat staff who are set to shift to the new capital by next month for a period of one year.

- The first batch of the offices is slated for shifting by June 15
The decision was taken at a joint meeting held in Hyderabad in April and the deadline for shifting to new capital is fast approaching. Speaking to The Hans India, the APNGOs senior leader A Vidya Sagar welcomed the orders on five-day week.
“We have asked for a five-day week, 30 per cent HRA and local status for the employees as we are shifting from Hyderabad to the new capital. The government has already approved five-day week and HRA issues, while the local status issue is now pending before the Central government,”.
Meanwhile, the work on the first floor for the six blocks of the temporary secretariat at Velagapudi village has been completed and the workers are racing against time to complete the second floor, while the first floor in all the six blocks is almost ready for occupation. The ceiling, electrical and plumber works too were started with additional strength of workforce deployed in the last two weeks.
The government also decided to provide offices for the Ministers besides the Chief Minister. The CMO, which is now located in the city is likely to be relocated in the new secretariat.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed the Heads of Departments (HoDs) to find required space either in Vijayawada or Guntur besides other places in the vicinity as the space in the six blocks of the secretariat is not sufficient.
The government had initially agreed to provide space for the HoDs at the Velagapudi secretariat blocks by providing two additional floors.
However, the second floor itself is incomplete and the deadline of shifting is less than a fortnight from now, the Chief Minister had directed the HoDs to find accommodation on their own. He had instructed all the HoDs to find places and shift to the new capital as per the schedule.
The first batch of the offices is slated for shifting by June 15, followed by the second batch in July and third batch by August. The HoDs and the staff have agreed to relocate in the new capital by end of August, the final schedule fixed by the government after due consultations with the representatives of the Secretariat employees and the APNGOs.
He further said that the working hours in the new secretariat would also be changed once the staff begin to work there. “We will be working two hours a day extra and it is equal to the six day week.
The weekend is the facility being provided to the employees to spend with their families in Hyderabad as shifting families right now is not possible,” Vidya Sagar observed.
