Chittoor: “The education system has to keep pace with the changes taking place internationally and teachers need to update their knowledge,” said District Educational Officer K Nageswara Rao.

Participating as chief guest in hands on activity programme for science teachers at BSK Kannan High School here on Friday, he said teachers needed to update their techniques of teaching.

He said the teachers should involve students in group discussion.

Students on the other hand, need to be enthusiastic to learn what is relevant and it will make them an asset to society. The education system should aspire to reach international standards in the teaching, learning and administration aspects, he said.

The DEO said the system has become more accommodative, welcoming new ideas and incorporating changes leading to quick development. He said that the State government has planned to conduct an orientation programme for science teachers in the district in a phased manner.

The DEO informed that 100 trained resource persons from Agasthya Educational Institutions would be deputed to the select upper primary and high schools in the district for imparting training to the science teachers. He said that there is no dearth of funds for providing latest laboratory equipment in schools.

District Science Officer Sasidhar informed the DEO that Chittoor students won several awards at district and State level science exhibitions. The DEO later went around the exhibits at the science exhibition.
