Tender tamarind leaves are an important ingredient in the Andhra cuisine as the leaves are not only tasty but also possess medicinal values. They are used in preparing dal, fish and prawn curries.

The traders procure the leaves from Agency areas and sell them in markets Kakinada, Pithapuram and Rajahmundry and export them to places like Hyderabad and Vizianagaram. Currently, the leaves sell at Rs 120 a kg, which is alarming the food lovers.

In spite of the leaves being dear, the food lovers are buying them hooked to the lingering taste of the leaves. The traders attribute the high price of the leaves to short supply of the commodity.
