Atmakur: Although the Krishna Pushkaralu are due for a grand inauguration at Sangameswaram 48 days away, the works of Pushkar ghats costing Rs 1.5 crore are going at a snial’s pace allegedly because of lack of coordination among the staff of Panchayati Raj, R & B, Endowments and AP Transco. Not even 20 per cent of the work is complete.

Collector Ch Vijay Mohan’s inspection of the works on Thursday was cancelled. The State government is to spend Rs 15 crore for the Pushkaralu at Sangameswaram. With the slow pace of works and uncertainty over Krishna flood water timely launch of pushkarams appears in doubt.

The works have virtually come to a standstill, even as the Srisailam dam water level is to reach 62 feet. The laying of Atmakur-Sangameswaram tar road has been halted at the 40th km. Besides, the Forest department has objected to the Kapileswaram-Sangameswaram five km road.

It has also stalled 600 metres of road works as they have no permission. The electric poles are yet to erected. However, the reconstruction work of six small temples at a cost of Rs 90 lakh around the ‘garbhalayam’ are on. The temple structures are now visible. The Rural Water Supply department has failed to mobile drinking water, latrines and pushkar shelters.

Availability of water in the Srisailam dam is also proving to be a problem, as flood flow from upper riparian states Maharashtra and Karnataka during 48 days is doubtful. Even if the upstream irrigation projects get filled up along with lower Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar, the Krishna barrage may not received the required water.

Only a strong reaction from the Collector can push the pace of the pushkaralu works, said president of DCC women’s wing Momin Shabana, while blaming the district administration for the tardy work. Atmakur division CPM secretary Rajasekhar expressed anger while taking to task the contractor for his lethargy and officials of some departments for not inspecting the work spots.
