Tirupati: The State government’s prestigious Smart Pulse socio-economic survey began here on Sunday.

The survey in the city started from the house of local TDP MLA M Suguna at Nehru Nagar locality. Additional municipal commissioner Sridevi, along with corporation revenue officer Sethumadhav, collected the details of local MLA and her family members and also took the thumb impression of them to mark the launch of the survey in the city.

The survey began State-wide on July 8, but it was delayed for two days here due to snags in the software. Corporation revenue officer (RO) Sethumadhav said 192 teams each consisting of an enumerator and an assistant has been deployed for the survey covering about one lakh households in the pilgrim city in two spells.

The teams will be supervised by senior officials and also skilled supervisors (20), master trainers (four) and an in-charge officer (on e) to ensure smooth conduct of the survey. Select members of women SHGs were also roped in to guide and help the enumerators in their respective areas in the city, he explained.

The first spell of the survey will go on till July 31 and the second spell will be conducted from August 6 to 14 to complete it, revenue officer said adding that the survey will be suspended for five days from August 1to 5 to enable the staff to take up the disbursement of pensions to old elderly people, differently abled and others in the city which will be done every month in the first five days.

He said that unlike previous survey in which the details will be recorded on prescribed forms of paper, the Smart Pulse survey was based on latest IT tools. Each team is provided a tablet in which the details of the family will be uploaded online.

However, a corporation official on condition of anonymity said that most of people are wary of the survey and are reluctant to reveal the details fearing that it would ultimately result in depriving them the benefits like pension, NTR Arogyaseva (medical facility) and also essentials at subsidised price which they have been availing all these years by concealing their real economic status.
