Vijayawada: Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra on Monday announced that the Telugu Desam government is gearing up to release notification to take 14,000 acres of land from the farmers through land pooling scheme in Machilipatnam for construction of the port and industrial corridor.

Giving details of the package to the farmers, he said patta land owners will be given same package as received by Amaravati region farmers.

He said 250 square yards will be allotted in commercial areas and 1,000 square yards in the non-commercial areas in the land pooling area for giving one acre land to the State government. He said the total port area will be about 426 square km covering 28 villages and Machilipatnam town.

However, he made it clear that the government will not acquire 1.05 lakh acres land as alleged by the Opposition parties in the State. He said the construction of the port was a long-pending dream of the Machilipatnam people and TDP government was determined to fulfill it by 2018.

Talking to reporters, here on Monday, the Minister said the government owns 11,000 acres and possesses another 8,000 acres assigned land and these lands can be used for industrial development purposes.

Kollu Ravindra announced that the government needs 33,000 acres for construction of port, development of industrial corridor and infrastructure facilities in and around Machilipatnam and it already owns 19,000 acres.

So the government will take only 14,000 acres through land pooling from farmers, he said and added that govt is gearing up to release the notification. He dared the Opposition parties to prove it that govt is looking to take over 1 lakh acres and announced to resign to his post, if these allegations are proved.

He said the Machilipatnam Area Development Authority (MADA) is spread over 1.05 lakh acres including Machilipatnam town and the proposed port area. Recalling the past incidents, he said the Congress government failed to construct the port after giving notification to acquire 6,260 acres.

He recalled the construction works were awarded to Mytas company and later Navayuga constructions but they failed to construct the port. He firmly stated that a ship will be anchored at the port by 2018 at any cost.
