Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is expected to review the progress of Krishna Pushkaralu works at Srisailam on July 16. Though the Collector is making surprise inspection of Sangameswaram twice a week, the development works are yet to gain pace.

Atmakur (Kurnool): The completion of Krishna Pushkaralu works by the end of this month is unlikely though District Collector Ch Vijaya Mohan is breathing down the neck of officials all the time. The Irrigation, Panchayat Raj, Endowments, Rural Water Supply and APTransco took up Pushkaralu works at Sangameswaram, the confluence of seven rivers.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is expected to review the progress of Krishna Pushkaralu works at Srisailam on July 16. Though the Collector is making surprise inspection of Sangameswaram twice a week, the development works are yet to gain pace.

The completion of 80 per cent of Krishna Pushkaralu works by the July 16 deadline is doubtful. The undue delay in execution of works was attributed to the nexus between some officials and contractors. The officials were trying to shield the contractors by citing lame excuses for the delay in execution of Pushkaralu works, an observer said.

Construction of toilets and changing rooms and sinking of borewells are yet to be taken up at Sangameswaram. The new bathing ghat works and repairs to the existing ones are way behind schedule.

The laying of a 5 km bitumen road between Kapileswaram and Sangameswaram is going on at a snail’s pace. There is no progress in Atmakur-Sangameswaram road extension works. The lighting arrangements at bathing ghats are also tardy.

There is some progress in development works taken up by the Endowments department. It has completed about 40 per of the works so far.

As Krishna Pushkaralu are fast approaching, the development works need to be expedited to ensure that the pilgrims visiting the district for the river fete do not face any inconvenience. The State government should crack a whip on errant officials to ensure that the Pushkaralu works are completed as per schedule at any cost.

Otherwise, it is the government which will draw flak from pilgrims for its failure to make adequate arrangements for Pushkaralu, said a district official on condition of anonymity.
