Kurnool: Around 50 per cent of the country’s blood requirement is being fulfilled through blood donation camps, MP T G Venkatesh has said.He was speaking at a blood donation drive organised by the Indus School here on Wednesday. He participated as a chief guest, and said this was the fourth time that the Indus School was organising the blood donation camp to commemorate the fourth death anniversary of its founder Kalyanamma.

He said many deaths were taking place due to non availability of blood. “There is heavy shortage of blood to cater the needs of the patients,” he added.

He further stated that blood donation camps would help save many lives. He opined that there was a need to create awareness among the young students in case of blood donation.

Venkatesh appreciated the students who had come forward to donate blood for a noble cause. On this occasion around 500 forms on eye donation were filled and handed them over to the Red Cross society.

Later, the director of the Montessori group of schools K Rajasekhar, Red Cross Society chairman G Srinivasulu, Dr Krishna Mohan, Dr G Rajasekhar and head mistress too spoke on the occasion.
