Chittoor: The Rompicherla police arrested two red sanders smugglers and recovered Rs 2 crore worth red sanders logs based on their information. Speaking to the media here on Thursday, District Superintendent of Police (SP) G Srinivas said that police personnel have arrested Suoj (45), a resident of Nellore and Chandravathi, who is a resident of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu.

Based on their information, the police raided a godown near Krishnagiri and recovered 157 red sanders logs. The SP said that the value of recovered red sanders logs were of worth Rs 2 crore in international market.

He stated that Rompicherla police and Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force are jointly conducting searches in Krishnagiri to find more dumps of red sanders logs.

The SP said that the police officials have clamped down Preventive Detention (PD) Act on international red sanders smuggler Ajay Kumar on the instructions of District Collector Siddharth Jain.

Ajay is the resident of Calicut in Kerala. Srinivas stated that police arrested Ajay Kumar and sent him to Kadapa Central Jail on Thursday. He said that 13 cases were registered against him for exporting 200 million tonnes of red sanders logs to Hong Kong and Dubai. The SP said Ajay Kumar had earned Rs 50 crore by exporting red sanders logs to foreign countries.
