Vijayawada: CPI city secretary Donepudi Sankar on Sunday demanded that the VMC immediately withdraw the notices served to the tax payers to pay the annual tax once in a year. He said the VMC collects taxes every six months but now sending notices to the tax payers to pay one year tax.

The CPI secretary said the VMC could change the procedures of collection of taxes without passing a resolution in the Council. He said the VMC should give paper statements in newspapers and gather public opinion when they change the policy on collection of taxes.

He appealed to Mayor Koneru Sridhar and Municipal Commissioner G Veerapandian to withdraw the revised rules and stick to the old system on collection of taxes. He criticised that the Mayor had no respect for the Council and people and taking decisions on his own on policy matters.
