Rajamahendravaram: Vice-Chancellor of Adikavi Nannaya University Prof M Mutyala Naidu has called upon the poets, particularly who wrote vachana kavitvam (prose) or free works to write in accordance with time and situations happening in society.

Inaugurating Sathavadhanam” on prose on the University campus on Tuesday, he said that globalisation has definitely has an impact on literature and it will lead to new trends.

Telugu University in-charge Prof Yendluri Sudhakar who was the special guest, in his address, said that origin of all revolutions in the world were from vachana kavitvam or free works only.

He reminded in 1930’s the poetry was called `hungry poetry’ as it was written on the conditions during that time by American poets and the first Telugu writer was Sistla Uma Maheswara Rao in Telugu on vachana kavitvam-`navami chiluka’.

Srirangam Narayanababu’s “Rudhira Babu”, Pattabhi’s “Phidelu dajanu ragalu” and Sri Sri’s “Maha Prasthanam” are the other popular free works, he added. He said that colloquial language is important than scholarly language to express the pain and grief of the people.

Prof KS Ramesh, Registrar of the University and Head of English Department said that free works or vachana kavitvam is also popular in English literature and popular poets like Keats, Shelly and Brian wrote in free works only.

Nallamilli Sesha Reddy, Chairman of Aditya Educational Institutions said that Sathavadhanam or Astavadhanam are peculiar and most popular literary aspects in Telugu literature and appreciated the University authorities for organising such programme.

Poet Rentala Venkateswara Reddy explained about Gajals and its popularity in Telugu literature whereas, Pitapuram Sansthan Rajah Venkata Mahipathi Rama Ratnakara Rao has recalled Pitapuram king’s history, kingdom and other court. Tarapatla Satyanarayana, Telugu Department, Prof S Teki, Head of Academic Affairs and others participated in this programme.
