​Nellore: State SC Corporation Chairman Jupudi Prabhakar Rao said the State government had set a target of distributing Rs 100 crore to 5,000 SC, ST beneficiaries in the district. He made an appeal to bankers to support the cause for uplift of the poor and needy among SC and ST communities. He addressed an awareness programme here on Tuesday.

Jupudi said that the government had allocated Rs 1,100 crore in the budget for extending loans to SC, ST beneficiaries in the State. He called for effective coordination between district officials and bankers for achieving the target.

For a loan of Rs 1 lakh, bank has to give an assistance of Rs 40,000 to the beneficiary and the rest Rs 60,000 would be borne by the State government as a subsidy, he explained.

He expressed anguish over bankers for showing interest to sanction loans for affluent people but not for the weaker sections. Prabhakar said that 29 per cent of Dalit communities in the State fall under below poverty line.

District Collector R Mutyala Raju said they would set up a separate grievance cell for addressing the needs of SC, ST communities. City Mayor Abdul Aziz appealed to bankers to support weaker sections of the society.

MLC S Chandramohan Reddy said the State government has been supporting the SC, ST communities by allocating huge funds under sub-plan.

Former Ministers Mareppa, A Prabhakar Reddy, MLCs B Ravichandra, V Narayana Reddy, MLA K Ramakrishna, former legislators A Vivekananda Reddy, N Subrahmanyam, MSK Reddy, and others were present. Rs 30 crore worth cheques were distributed to the beneficiaries during the programme.
