Tirupati: The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) would take up the reconstruction of drainages in low-lying localities such as Gollavanigunta, Poolavanigunta and Korramenugunta in the city to avoid inundation during rains. Responding to the complaints and series of representations from the affected people in these areas, MCT commissioner V Vinay Chand took up an extensive visit of the low-lying areas in the city on Thursday.

He examined the drainage system and found drains were inadequate to cope with heavy discharge of water during rains. After inspection of the three areas, Vinay Chand directed the engineering officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the reconstruction of the drains to streamline them to
prevent inundation.

Vinay Chand riding on a scooter took up the inspection of the localities, from 5 am and covered a wide range of areas in the pilgrim city, where the corporation received spate of complaints mostly about the faulty drainage and inundation during rains causing lot of inconvenience to them in the localities. He also interacted with the people in some areas on the issues they are facing during his three-hour long extensive inspection.

In Kaikalacheruvu area, he found construction of an unauthorised building and directed the town planning officials to stop the construction and also take steps no construction takes place in the area.

He also visited Garudadri Nagar, Lakshmipuram, Narayanapuram and other low-lying areas and thoroughly inspected the drainage system for taking steps to prevent inundation during rains.

Vinay Chand also inspected several ongoing developmental works including the laying of Rs 25 lakh drinking water pipeline in Thimminaidupalem, drainage reconstruction in Peddakapu Layout and the pathway in the burial ground in Balaji Colony. The corporation engineers P Satyanarayana, T Chandrasekhar and others accompanied the commissioner during inspection.
