Vijayawada: CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna said that the State government should encourage sports from school level instead of competing with others in announcing incentives to the winners.

Speaking at a press conference, here on Monday, Ramakrishna said the State government had been neglecting sports and promoting corporate education culture in the State. He also said some countries are spending at least Rs 22 per head on sports, but in India sportspersons have to spend from their own pockets.

He further said the Chief Ministers of Telugu States were competing each other to announce incentives to winners and urged them to change their attitude and allocate funds to encourage sports in their respective States. Ramakrishna said CPI would give support and participate in ‘Farmers Demands Day’ on September 1.

“The farmers in the State are in distress as the government failed in providing irrigation water to paddy. Seedbeds are withering across the State due to water shortage. The Chief Minister is not addressing the difficulties of farmers. He is celebrating the Krishna Pushkaralu and became a spiritual guru” Ramakrishna said.
