Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Forest department will add another 36 lakh hectares of forest cover in the State over the next 15 years.

This entails planting about 30 crore saplings every year under the ‘Harithandhra Pradesh’ mission, according to Forest department officials.

Under the project the areas for plantation identified includes canal bunds, degraded forest areas, shallow areas, waste lands, endowment lands, river banks, shore lines, industrial areas, schools, revenue lands, premises of government offices etc.

Special plantation programmes would also be rolled out under ‘Nagara Vanam’ covering 13 municipal corporations and two municipalities.

To date, 30 crore plants have already been planted under Vanam-Manam programme and each plant has been geo-tagged.

Also, the responsibility for the safety and growth of each plant for a period of four to five years has been entrusted to individuals and institutions.
