Vijayawada: Online motor vehicles registration introduced by State government for speedy registrations as well as reducing corruption evokes good response from vehicle owners in Krishna district.

Vehicle registrations became almost double since the new system was launched in Vijayawada on July 26 by the Transport Minister Sidda Raghavarao.

According to transport officials, the number of vehicles being registered through online registration system increased to 280 per day against 150 registrations in the past by manual system, which was traditional system of sending documents to head office in Hyderabad.

According to transport officials, as many as 9,494 vehicles have been sold in the district since July 26. Of them, 8,626 vehicles got permanent registration in 30 working days.

This is very significant improvement as far as registration of vehicles is concerned.

Time takes for the registration also decreased significantly.

Recalling the past experiences, Deputy Transport Commissioner E Meera Prasad said that it took at least 70 working days to register a vehicle at the registration office when manual system was implemented.

He said the vehicle owners used to inquire many times about the registration of their vehicles. He reminded that middlemen had exploited the situation and collected money from the vehicle owners promising speedy registration of vehicles. He said now the customers can comfortably register their vehicles very quickly.

Under the new system, the time taken for the registration was reduced to one day and some times, the registration process was completed within 15 minutes, said Meera Prasad. The vehicle owners have to furnish Aadhaar card, address proof and photos to vehicle dealer at the time of buying which are uploaded online by the dealers. After verification, the transport department officials will send the RC book to the customers. The entire process is being completed very quickly, the DTC said. Vijayawada is the third city in the State implementing online system after Vizag and Srikakulam.
