Tirupati: The raids by Income Tax officials on the houses and offices of Chennai-based businessman and contractor Sekhar Reddy, who is also serving as TTD trust board member, and his associates leading to the recovery of a whopping Rs 120 crore unaccounted assets including Rs 90 crore cash and Rs 30 crore worth of 100 kg gold on Thursday, spurred the political parties to seek his removal from the post of TTD trust board.
In a strongly worded release here on Friday, CPM district secretary K Kumar Reddy demanded his immediate removal from the TTD board on moral grounds.
Reddy said the seizure of huge unaccounted cash and gold by IT officials give a tell-tale picture of the murky deals of Shekar Reddy and also amply reveal the misuse of the post for personal benefits and economic aggrandizements.
The CPM has all along been stressing on appointing only those with clean image as the member of TTD trust board. The party said that the TTD is tarnishing its image by appointing tainted and corrupt into its board.
The CPI staged a dharna demanding the government to immediately remove Shekar Reddy as TTD board member. The CPI city secretary Chinnam Penchalaiah, who participated in the protest, said that a religious institution like TTD should have only those having service mind and pious thinking as its trust board members but not people like Sekhar Reddy.
Rayalaseema Porata Samithi (RPS) district convener P Naveenkumar Reddy said that TTD trust board has become a haven for the members of sand, mining and liquor mafia.
Reacting to the IT raids on Shekar Reddy’s residence and offices and the subsequent recovery of unaccounted cash and gold from him, Reddy said that the recovery of the huge quantity of new currency notes reveal how the demonetisation move of Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned ridiculous.
When women and elderly were forced to stand for hours before ATMs and banks for just Rs 2,000 and how Shekar Reddy can get crores of new currency notes, he asked.
