Development works worth `100 cr to be taken up
Alur (Kurnool): Alur, which is infamous for drought and drinking water shortage has been included in the second phase of the Rural Urban Mission, along with 11 other villages, paving the way for taking up of development works costing Rs100 crore. Five villages in five districts had been selected in the first phase.
The town is also known for lack of drainage facilities and CC roads, besides poverty. The works to be completed in three years include drinking water schemes and basic infrastructure, Panchayat Raj commissioner Ramanjaneyulu told The Hans India.
He said both the Central and the State governments were giving priority for the development of rural areas under the Rural Urban Mission. Solving drinking water problems on a permanent basis has been given priority, with provision for laying of pipelines and building of OHR tanks to supply protected drinking water.
The mission aims to set up RO plants in areas where fluoride problem is serious, besides taking up water schemes under the NTR Sujala Sravanthi. Officials of the Rural Water Supply (RWS) department are preparing plans to achieve these aims, Ramanjaneyulu explained.
He stated that construction of individual latrines for each house under the hygiene, Swachh Bharat and Swachh Andhra programmes are also to be taken up, along with burial grounds besides setting up of primary health centres for protecting the health of the people. Setting up of Anganwadi centres, construction of rainwater harvesting pits and training to unemployed youths are also on the agenda of the mission.
Veerabhadra Goud Alur Telugu Desam Party in-charge, told The Hans India that inclusion of Alur in the Rural Urban Mission was a blessing.
