Yenkiamma, (65years), wife of a retired port employee, said that she was going around the ATMs to collect her husband’s pension to reach their daily expenses. Since their home branch is far away from their residence, she draws money from nearest ATM.“How we will run home if there is no cash in ATMs,’’ she said. A perturbed employee of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant K Jagga Rao said he has been seeing ‘No Cash’ boards at all ATM centres, while returning home from the steel plant and passing through the ATMs in different sectors of township till Gajuwaka.
Senior naval officer Lt Commander Joginder Sinha said there was no cash at ATMs at Nausenabaugh and Malkapuram areas. He was recently transferred from Mumbai, but the workers refused to pack his belongings as he could not draw cash from ATM. He borrowed money from his colleagues to pay them. Lead Bank Manager Sarath Babu agreed that there was no cash in the ATMs since three days at Pendurthi ,NAD Kotha Road, Gajuwaka, Dwarakanagar and other places in the city.“Now the cash is available. We have sent money to the various banks and ATMs and now the problem would be solved in another two days,’’ he said.
