Demand Special Status to vote, Congress tells TDP, YSRCP
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president N Raghuveera Reddy opined that if the YSRCP and TDP demand Special Status for Andhra Pradesh to vote in the election for the post of President of India, the state will definitely get the Special Status.
Eluru/Kakinada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president N Raghuveera Reddy opined that if the YSRCP and TDP demand Special Status for Andhra Pradesh to vote in the election for the post of President of India, the state will definitely get the Special Status.
He reached Eluru on Friday evening as part of the membership drive of the party. He addressed the media at Congress district committee office.
Speaking to the reporters, Raghuveera said that the Congress is fighting for the Special Status to the State. However, he lamented that opportunistic parties like TDP and YSRCP are giving priority to their interests only. He said that the Special Status issue is yet closed.
However, the TDP and YSRCP were now backing the BJP at the Centre and not discussing the Special Status issue with the NDA government.
He said the Congress never compromised on the state’s interests. He alleged that the YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy entered into an understanding with the BJP at the Centre.
He suggested that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy impose a condition on Special Status to AP to take part in the Presidential election. To vote in favour of the candidate named by the BJP, these two parties should demand Special Status.
Raghuveera pointed out that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced Special Status to AP for five years in Parliament. Then, the BJP sought the status for 10 years, he reminded. However, after the 2014 general elections, the BJP completely ignored the issue, he pointed out.
He said the Congress party has taken up a ‘One crore’ signature campaign for the Special Status and it will continuously fight for the Special Status. He said that another 14 parties were also supporting the legitimate demand.
He said soon all the 14 parties will hold a massive public meeting at Bhimavaram demanding Special Status.
Former MP J D Seelam, PCC secretary West Godavari Congress affairs in-charge Naraharisetty Narasimha Rao, DCC president Rafiullah Baig, Eluru city President Rajanala Ramamohan Rao and others participated in the media conference.
Later, addressing party leaders in Kakinada, Raghuveera said the Congress main agenda for 2019 general elections will be making Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister.
