Vizianagaram: Intermittently, we find reports about how policemen play a Good Samaritan role. Fund education of deserving, provide succor to families who lost their dear ones, help young couple tie nuptials and many more such incidents.
Despite their best such efforts, police have a bad image among public. The sight of men in khaki sends shivers down the spine.
But an event that took place in Vizianagaram erases all the misconception about the police. Only if such a programme is taken up across the nation, everyone will flock to police.
Who is the person who brought such a change? It’s the Superintendent of Police LKV Ranga Rao. A committed officer like Rao can bring in a change. He inspires the community. He follows the principles of leadership in bringing change in society.
Such a thought process has made the top cop to come out with an innovative programme by inviting students of backward areas and backward communities for an interaction with him. The invitees were surprised to receive the invitation from the police boss of the district.
“I never expected such a invitation. This would be a memorable event in my life. I can’t believe that I had dinner with SP on the same table. SP has inspired the poor students like us. I want to be a police officer in future.
Even he told me that he would guide me in education and career,” said U Lokesh, a student of Pachipenta junior college, who participated in the get together programme.
Spending from his own pocket, he fixed the venue at the Collector Bungalow, which is generally forbidden to students like these. They were awestruck to enter the place itself. Nearly 114 students from government colleges, who came out in flying colours in the exam, attended the programme.
Students, lecturers and parents from 34 government junior colleges spent time with the SP and felt honoured to have dinner with him on Thursday evening. Students from the remote and agency mandals like Kurupam, G L Puram, and Komarada too attended the programme.
They were glad that they played games, spent quality time by interacting and even dinned with him. Ranga Rao personally served the food to the students and convinced them to eat more. He congratulated the students for getting good results in Intermediate exam.
Inspiriting the students, Ranga Rao narrated his own story of struggle, growth and achievement. Quoting Bill Gates, Rao told students that “If you are born poor it’s not your mistake, but if you die poor it’s your mistake.”
Rao gave numerous examples of people who are now in top positions had come from humble backgrounds. “This can be possible only if you put in hard work, sho commitment towards duties, being honest and sincere,” he said.
P Suresh, student of Chinamerangi college, said, “The programme really is helpful for us to reach higher positions. I felt happy when SP and other talked to us. I will keep the appreciation certificate with me forever.”
Giving some life tips, Rao advised them to stay away from vices and be judicious in spending on material things. He suggested them onto to pester their parents to buy them expensive mobiles and vehicles.
P Nagabhushana Rao, Principal, APTWRJC, P Konavalasa, said, “I never attend such a programme in my service. Students felt happy to attend the programme and we are going back to our village with confidence.”
After the interaction and dinner, the SP awarded the students with an appreciation certificates. Even parents expressed their happiness for the appreciation and encouragement their children got from the SP.
