Vijayawada: Though the state government is giving top priority to promote sports, the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) officials are not filling the posts that are lying vacant in Vijayawada. But, the officials appointed coaches for three disciplines in two districts. Consequently, injustice is meted out to some districts on allotment of coaches.
SAAP Vice-Chairman and Managing Director (VC&MD) N Bangara Raju transferred District Sports Development Officers (DSDO) and coaches of different sports disciplines two days ago. In this particular issue, SAAP authorities have not given equal importance to all districts. The SAAP shifted and posted two coaches in three disciplines in Guntur and Kakinada respectively.
On the other hand, 12 coach posts are lying vacant in Vijayawada and there are no coaches for kho-kho, kabaddi, basketball, cricket, gymnastics, hockey, athletics, yoga, weightlifting, table tennis, judo and archery. Hundreds of youngsters are badly need of good coaching and facilities at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium.
Table tennis and cricket players are depending on private coaches for honing their skills. Archery, which is the most important sports in Vijayawada, has no coach. Andhra Pradesh Archery Association (APAA) secretary Cehrukuri Satyanarayana is providing coaching facility at his academy.
According to sources, SAAP authorities intentionally posted two coaches in Guntur and Kakinada. The sources said that Guntur hockey coach Mahesh was appointed as Guntur DSDO and he is working at the same venue. The SAAP transferred and posted another hockey coach Murali from Kakinada to Guntur. Now, the Guntur district has two hockey coaches. In another incident, SAAP shifted the Sports School Special Officers and gymnastic coach Afroz to Guntur.
Similarly, basketball coach Mohan Dass is working in Kakinada (East Godavari). Another basketball coach Viakunta Rao Rudra was posted to Kakinada as East Godavari DSDO. Now, Kakinada has two basketball coaches. Many players could have been benefitted if these coaches have been posted to Vijayawada The Union and State governments are giving top priority to yoga and every year both the governments have been conducting the Yoga Day. But in Vijayawada there is no yoga coach.
The International Yoga Day will be held next month and the state government has already given instructions to SAAP to prepare works for that mega Yoga Day. In this scenario, SAAP has made a mistake and transferred yoga coach Venkateswara Rao to Nellore.
City players in many disciplines are winning medals in the state and national level championships without proper coaching. If the state government provides coaching facility in all disciplines, many players can hone their skills and bring medals to the city. But, the SAAP is facing allegations that the transfers were not made on the basis of requirement in the respective districts.
