IT minister Seeks Carnegie Mellon University support in establishing Drone Centre of Excellence in Vizag

He informed that Omnipresent - a drone manufacturing company came forward to establish drone manufacturing, research and skill development centre in Visakhapatnam. Speaking to media persons Lokesh said that Prof Raji Reddy assured of his support for the Drone Centre of Excellence, which was being taken up jointly by the government and AP Innovation Society.

“We need the help of Carnegie Mellon University and IIIT for preparing modules on summarising the information gathered through drones for the development of the state,” he averred.

Lokesh said that China was the leader in manufacturing drones across the world and there was a scope to manufacture them in state at a much cheaper price, which would create more job opportunities for the youth. “Utilising drones, we can contain red sanders smuggling and others.

As there is heavy demand for drones, if we train more youngsters, we can provide more job opportunities. We are going to establish drone manufacturing, research and skill development centre in Visakhapatnam with international standards, which will provide jobs for the local unemployed youth,” the minister noted. Drones can also be utilised for conducting survey on the standard of roads, cleanliness in rural areas, and other programmes, he opined.
