Eluru: Police took several CPI leaders and workers into their custody after they tried to enter the Collectorate as part of their state-wide ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’.

The CPI state council has called upon the party cadre to take up Jail Bharo Andolan to pressurise the government to solve the problems of the farmers immediately. As part of this, scores of CPI activists and farmers attempted to storm the Collectorate on Monday.

However, the police stopped them at the main entrance and there was an altercation between the police and the activists. Police have arrested 14 leaders including CPI district secretary Dega Prabhakar, district secretariat member Bandi Venkateswara Rao, CPI leaders Puppala Kannababu, TVS Raju, Kalinga Lakshmana Rao and others and shifted them to three-town police station.

Earlier, addressing the gathering, district CPI secretary Dega Prabhakar stated that the governments have disregarded Dr MS Swaminathan’s reports neglecting the problems of the farmers.
