The average deliveries recorded per month in the hospital are 1,000. As a result, two women and sometimes even three share a single bed. While the new-born babies were seen sleeping beside their mothers on a small size beds. In the absence of patients’ attendants, there is every possibility of just-born falling from the bed.

District Collector P S Pradyumna visited the Maternity and Ruia Hospitals on Tuesday and inspected various wards, operation theatres and amenities provided to patients. After inspecting maternity ward, the Collector immediately sanctioned 100 modern beds, which will have special arrangement to keep the babies safely with mothers. Later, he participated in Ruia Hospital Development Society (HDS) meeting and sanctioned Rs 4 crore in his capacity as HDS chairman.
The amount will be spent on purchasing medical equipment, modern beds, CCTV cameras, RO water plants and Air-Conditioners (ACs) and also for taking up the repair works of the existing ACs and bio-metric machines. He asked the Ruia Superintendent Dr Sidda Naik to call tenders for installing CCTV cameras on hospital premises, supply of medicines and food to the hospital.
He instructed the hospital authorities to ensure functioning of diagnostic lab round-the-clock. The Collector gave approval for purchase of three X-ray machines in the Anesthesia department. After visiting the orthopedic ward, the Collector directed the hospital authorities to provide ACs and additional ventilators.
During inspection, the Collector noticed the non-functioning of tube lights and fans and asked officials concerned to take repair works immediately. He has directed the Superintendent to provide mineral water in all the wards and enquired about the colour coded linen with the staff nurse Vijaya Lakshmi.
A woman attendant from Bangarupalem told Collector that their rivals had killed her husband and her grandfather is recovering in the hospital now. Pradyumna immediately called the police and asked them to arrest the accused in the murder case.
Pradyumna made it clear that Ruia Hospital is catering the needs of entire Rayalaseema region and it will be developed on par with corporate hospitals. Later, speaking to the media, the Collector stated that steps will be taken soon to make the helmets mandatory. Every petrol bunk will be asked to fill the petrol to only those, who wear helmets.
A committee will also be constituted soon with Police, Transport, Revenue, Panchayat Raj and Roads and buildings authorities which will bring awareness about road safety among the public.
