Vijayawada: Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu was accorded a rousing welcome at Gannavaram Airport on his first visit to the State after taking over as the Vice-President of India.
Governor E S L Narasimhan, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers Ashok Gajapati Raju, Sujana Chowdary, MP Kesineni Srinivas alias Nani, Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, DGP N Sambasiva Rao, Commissioner of Police D Gautam Sawang, ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha, MLAs and others received the Vice-President at the airport.
Later, a mega road show was conducted from Gannavaram Airport to Prakasam Barrage as thousands of school and college students, local villagers, teachers, lecturers and others welcomed by standing on roadside.
Several hundred police personnel were drafted for the road show from airport to Prakasam Barrage. Delighted with the massive response from the people, leaders and officials, Venkaiah Naidu greeted the people by standing on the decorated open top vehicle, which passed slowly from airport to Prakasam Barrage to reach Velagapudi.
Hundreds of cars followed the convoy of the Vice-President and people greeted him waving the national flags and showering flowers on him.
