The district administration made all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Ganesh Nimajjanam here on Saturday. Around 2,000 Ganesh idols situated in the city would be immersed at Vinayaka Ghat. The idols installed at different places in the city would reach Vinayaka Ghat through various routes in huge processions.

The idol of Lord Ganesha at Rambotla temple receives the first prayers in the old city. After offering prayers, auctioning of the laddu would be held wherein various political party leaders and commoners would take part. The highest auctioneer would win the laddu.
Last year, YSRCP MP Butta Renuka won the laddu for Rs 1 lakh. After the completion of the auction, the idol will be taken out for immersion in a huge procession. Following this, all other 2,000 idols in the city would take a move. As the Rambotla temple is situated at the I-Town area where the majority are Muslims.
To safeguard the interests of both communities and to maintain peace and prosperity in the society, the police officials have beefed up security to avert untoward incidents. District Collector S Satyanarayana and Superintendent to Police Gopinath Jetti along with locals including the Muslim community elders took out a peace rally in the old city.
They also held several discussions with the Muslim community elders to cooperate with each other as Bakrid is also being celebrated on the same day. The Collector said that Kurnool stands as an inspiration for brotherhood on all occasions and people of both communities take part in each other’s religious functions.
He appealed to the people of both communities to celebrate the occasion with love and affection. The SP also made an appeal to the people to cooperate with each other and maintain peace in the city. He said that adequate police personnel have been deployed to prevent communal violence.
