Eco-friendly LPG crematorium ‘Govinda Dhamam’ was inaugurated by Minister for Industries N Amaranatha Reddy in Tirupati on Sunday. The first of its kind crematorium was built by organisations like Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, AVOPA and Satya Harischandra Hindu Rudra Bhoomi Society. 

Tirupati: Eco-friendly LPG crematorium ‘Govinda Dhamam’ was inaugurated by Minister for Industries N Amaranatha Reddy in Tirupati on Sunday. The first of its kind crematorium was built by organisations like Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, AVOPA and Satya Harischandra Hindu Rudra Bhoomi Society.

They all have formed ‘Maha Prasthana Seva Samithi’ (MPSS) to implement this project which was completed with an outlay of Rs 3 crore. Speaking on the occasion, Amaranatha Reddy lauded the initiative of the Samithi. The Minister pointed out that the city has secured 9th place in cleanliness. And it should be on top next year.

The Minister added that Vinayaka Sagar will be developed at a cost of Rs 9 crores. Jindal company is going to establish their treatment plant from the waste collected from the city soon. TTD, TUDA, the State government and Central governments have been extending their cooperation to make Tirupati a smart city.

Amaranatha Reddy also released a pamphlet relating to the awareness programme on organ donation. The Minister felicitated Vinayaka temple donors at Govinda Dhamam J Lakshmi Devi, Prakash Choudary and committee members. He also handed over corporation’s death register to the president of MPSS T Damodaram.

Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ch Harikiran said that the Govinda Dhamam is first step towards Smart City. Daily about 30 deaths were being reported in and around Tirupati. People should make use of this LPG crematorium in a sacred manner.

Tirupati MP V Varaprasad observed that there would be no pollution in cremating a dead body in LPG crematorium which is good for environment. He said that he has contributed Rs.1 lakh for Govinda Dhamam construction.

MPSS president Tenkayala Damodaram said that in 2014, the idea was grounded with the cooperation of RASS chairman G Munirathnam. Municipal corporation has helped in providing one acre land and TUDA made the gardening.

Prakash of Kolkata was the largest donor with Rs 39 lakh and following the initiative of the Chief Minister, the District Collector has given Rs 30 lakh. TANA has donated Rs 27.5 lakh. Tirupati MLA M Suguna and TUDA Chairman G Narasimha Yadav also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, two units of LPG crematorium, two final rites vehicles, two rooms meant for performing daily ‘Pinda Pradan’, webcasting room and organ donation enrolment room were inaugurated by the Minister, MP, MLA and TUDA chairman.

To burn one body, Rs 1800 worth of gas would be required. MPSS has decided to collect Rs 3,000 for cremation. One can book the time at the crematorium by calling to 95535 35655 or 99666 63118. The body will be brought to the crematorium by Govinda Dhama ratham free of cost.
