Vijayawada: The forest department officials will conduct Vanam Manam programme in Kondapalli forest and inviting Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu as the chief guest for the plantation drive.

The forest department officials visited Kondapalli forest several times in recent days and preparing route map and schedule for the visit of the Chief Minister. The officials are holding discussions with the Chief Minister’s office and planning to host Vanam Manam on November 11. But the date is not yet finalised, according to sources.

The officials are also trying to invite the Chief Minister to the historical Kondapalli Fort on November 11. If the Chief Minister visits the fort it may get a facelift. The 15th century fort is totally neglected by successive governments. The visitors have been deprived of drinking water and toilets facility on the fort.

Earlier, the APTDC tried to draw ground water by laying the borewell. The efforts were failed due to technical reasons. The APTDC has to get suitable power supply to extract water from the ground level but there is no cooperation from other departments, said a senior officer.

The tourism department is not constructing toilets due to lack of water facility. Now, the officials of tourism and forest departments hope the Chief Minister’s visit to the fort may give boost to the fort.

Kondapalli Fort is the only worth mentioning fort in Krishna district with solid rock structure and scenic beauty. It is located 25 km from Vijayawada city and very near to the new capital Amaravati.

The forest department officials, who are monitoring the arrangements for the visit of the Chief Minister to Kondapalli, is yet to finalise the final programme of the latter. The Chief Minister’s visit for Vanam Manam programme needs very tight security as it will be held in densely reserve forest area.
