Kerala making efforts to bring down input cost for farmers, says minister
Kerala Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar has said that the Kerala Government has been implementing various welfare schemes to the farmers in their State. He visited Mukkamala village in Peravali mandal on Thursday and inspected the guava gardens and cocoa plantations in the village.

Later, interacting with the farmers, the Kerala Minister said that as part of these schemes, the Kerala government is taking measures to minimise the agriculture input costs and to increase crop yields. He said that he is touring Andhra Pradesh to know about the no-investment nature cultivation methods, its implementation, yielding and income.
Sunil Kumar inquired the farmers about their cultivation methods and income on the crops and on other related issues. The farmers have informed him that the organic cultivation is going on in the district and trainers are creating awareness on various crops. Replying to the Minister’s question, the farmers told him that they cultivate individually and not in group cultivation. The machinery has reduced the cost of the cultivation, the farmers told the Minister.
A banana Farmer said that he did not use the DAP and used Jeevamrutam and get Rs.1.50 lakh income in a month through banana yielding. He said that each bunch weighing 30 to 35 kgs and each bunch get R.250 in the market. Some farmers said that just recently the farmers are attracted to nature’s cultivation in this area and hoped that in future the farmers and people will follow organic methods.
This will give much demand to the organic crops, they observed. Along with the Kerala Minister, Field Visit team members PYSS AP Chairman Vijaya Kumar, Kerala Agriculture department Principal Secretary Teeka Rama Meena, Kerala Executive Secretary SM Vijayananda, Harita Kerala Mission Vice Chairperson TN Seema Director of Agriculture AM Suneel Kumar, Additional Director Janardhan, Kerala Agri university Director of Extension Jiju P Alex, Agriculture Additional Principal Secretary Pradeep Kumar , National Institute of Plant Health Management, (NIPHM) Director General G Jayalakshmi, Village Secretary Arigela Aruna Kumari, MPTC member Gangadhara Rao and others were present.
