Eluru: Awareness rallies and programmes held in various parts of West Godavari district on Friday to mark World AIDS Day.
In Eluru, West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar and ZP Chairman Mullapudi Bapiraju flagged off the AIDS awareness rally at Indoor stadium. The rally passed thorough main fares of the city and reached indoor stadium. Scores of students, officials, medical officers, paramedics participated in the rally. District Collector K Bhaskar, ZP Chairman Bapiraju, MLC Ramu Surya Rao and others walked in the front row of the rally. Later, an awareness meeting on the AIDS was conducted in the indoor stadium. District Collector K Bhaskar, said that at present, the AIDS victims’ number had decreased compared to the last two decades. He said that the government has taken special care in providing medicines, modern medical suggestions and rehabilitation programmes to the HIV positive cases.
ZP Chairman Bapiraju, said that awareness among the people on the AIDS should be taken up for the control of the disease. MLC Ramu Surya Rao, District Medical and Health Officer Subrahmanyeswari, District Coordinator of Health Services K Sankara Rao, Eluru Municipal Corporation Cooption member SMR Pedababu, Telugu Yuvata President Maganti Ramji and others participated in the meeting.
In Kovvuru town, Municipal Chairperson J Radha Rani flagged off the AIDS awareness rally. Hundreds of students participated in the rally and the rally passed through the main faces of the town on the banks of River Godavari. The students raised slogans creating awareness among the people. Students, lecturers of various colleges formed a Human Chain at Bus Stand centre.
