Kurnool: A dream of the people of Kurnool district remains unfulfilled since long time to have an Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital constructed. There are six ESIC dispensaries, two in Kurnool, two in Adoni and one each at Nandyal and Yemmiganur.

All the dispensaries don’t have own buildings and are located at rented buildings. Out of the six dispensaries, one diagnostic centre is functioning at Adoni which is having bed strength of 10. All other dispensaries are restricted to prescribing medicines.

As a result, the ESI card holders are facing lots of problems in case of emergency. The patients have to travel 300 to 400 km to Tirupati, ESIC Regional Hospital risking their lives. In the recent past, the ESIC card holders in Kurnool district were increased abnormally.

The city is likely to emerge into an industrial corridor with more number of industries are to set up at Orvakal. Already, mega solar park was set up and is waiting for its commissioning. In August, this year, Labour Minister Pithani Satyanarayana has assured sanctioning of more number of dispensaries to districts.

He also said, “78 dispensaries across the State are extending services to the ESIC card holders. Of them, 66 are located in rented houses. Some leaders of BJP represented a petition to the then Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya for the construction of ESIC hospitals during his visit to Anantapur on August 5, this year.

The leaders urged the Minister to sanction a 30-bedded multispecialty hospital. Dr K Shiva Prasad, gynaecologist at Gondiparla ESIC dispensary in Kurnool, speaking to The Hans India, said Kurnool is having card holder strength of 35,000 and nearly 1.4 lakh families are being treated at the dispensaries. Lack of ESIC hospitals in the district has become a major problem to the patients to provide treatment for major diseases.

He said the government is planning to modify all the dispensaries to hospitals across the State besides increasing its bed strength. He appealed the government to construct a hospital with 50 bed strength in Kurnool. Dr Shiva Prasad further said that the ESI Corporation is having sufficient funds for the construction of hospital. But land is required for its construction.

“We have taken the issue to the notice of Rajya Sabha member TG Venkatesh seeking his intervention for allocation of land. TG Venkatesh has assured that he will strive for the allocation of land after discussing the issue with the district administration,” stated Shiva Prasad.
