Visakhapatnam: The Vakapalli gang-rape case of 11 Adivasis which came for third hearing on Tuesday at Special Court in Visakhapatnam that tries cases under SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was adjourned to December 18 after the Special Court framed charges against the accused. Two of the victims have come all the way to city from Vakapalli to attend the hearing.

It is also learnt that a petition was filed in the High Court in connection with the case, seeking an order directing Visakhapatnam District Collector appoint P Trinadha Rao as Special Public Prosecutor and Jahara as Assistant Public Prosecutor to prosecute the case as per the choice of victims.

Besides, the Vakapalli gang rape case victims urged the Special SC, ST Court to defer the proceedings in this case until the appointment of the Special Public Prosecutor, when the case came for third hearing at the court.

According to victims, they repose their faith in these two lawyers as they have good knowledge of the tribal society in which they are born and brought up and would therefore be able to present their case in all its detail to this court.
