Organisers and punters from the districts of Krishna, Guntur, East Godavari and West Godavari were targeted by the police who stated that the accused had been charged under the AP Gaming act with cash, birds and the knives seized.

The arrested will be produced in court and a detailed report would be submitted to the High Court.

Vijayawada witnessed a 250% increase in the number of cockfights that were held with 409 cases booked this year. Across Krishna district, of the 382 cases booked, 456 people have been taken into custody, while 955 people were apprehended.

722 cases were registered against 2,805 persons in West Godavari district, and East Godavari district witnessed over 1,000 cases being booked.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal against an order of the Hyderabad High Court, directing the Andhra Pradesh government to ban cockfights during Sankranti.
