Amaravati: The Union government is going to promote Energy Efficient (EE) Buildings Programme in Andhra Pradesh in a big way. Union Ministry of Power and the State government signed an agreement to make all the government buildings and establishments in the State as Energy Star Buildings. The Centre also took a decision to promote energy efficiency related programmes in a big way including providing electric buses to major cities in the State.
Managing Director of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), Union Ministry of Power, Saurabh Kumar, APTRANSCO Joint Managing Director Dinesh Parchuri, Secretary of Tribal welfare, Social Welfare Ramulu and APSEEDCO officials signed an agreement in the presence of Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar at the Secretariat on Wednesday for implementation of Energy Efficiency (EE) measures in those departments, schools and hostels under phase-1.
Welcoming the initiative of Union Ministry of Power, Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar stressed the need for immediate implementation of energy efficient measures in government buildings. “It is quite alarming that the dues of power bills of government departments reached over Rs 3,000 crore till date.
How do we expect Power DISCOMs to continue to provide quality power when there are huge amount of dues,” he asked. The Chief Secretary also pointed out that during the Collectors’ conference, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed all the departments to pay their electricity bills to DISCOMs at the earliest. He further said that the Chief Minister was very keen on making power utilities financially sustainable.
Dinesh Kumar said that the State government recently finalised an action plan for making all the buildings of government departments as energy efficient which would immensely benefit the departments to have substantial monetary savings of more than 30 per cent in its electricity bills.
Emphasising the need for all departments to implement energy efficiency activities in co-ordination with and financial support from APSEEDCO of Energy department, the Chief Secretary directed the secretaries concerned, Heads of the Departments and Collectors to take immediate measures for time bound implementation of EE Activities to reduce their expenditure towards energy charges and also pay special attention to clear up the existing electricity dues and prevent further piling up of the dues.
He suggested to the departments to establish energy conservation cells and nominate a nodal officer for co-ordination with APSEEDCO for implementation of EE Schemes in their area of operation under ESCO (Energy Service Company) model without any financial investment from the departments.
He said the Chief Minister was keen on implementing EE measures in both public and private sectors. APSEEDCO MD and CEO A Chandrasekhar Reddy said that around 12.14 million units of power would be saved under the EE building programme in the Tribal Welfare department alone. EESL South India in-charge Savitri Singh and AP regional manager Sasikant were present.
