Eluru: One-Town police arrested two persons here on Tuesday on the charge of killing a youth on May 16. Addressing the media, Eluru DSP K Eshwara Rao said that Tirumala Rama Shiva, an auto driver and his friend Kalivela Nagaraju, picked up a quarrel with one Sriyadri Sriharsha (25) of Southern Street in Eluru near YMHA Hall recently over a meagre amount of Rs 100.

They beat him up very badly with an iron rod resulting in his death. Later, the accused fled the scene and returned on Tuesday. The police nabbed the two accused and interrogated them. During interrogation, they confessed that they killed Sriharsha.

The DSP said the deceased Sri Harsha, the accused Naga Shiva and Kalivela Nagaraju were old friends. They used to go out and drink liquor together several times. Sri Harsha used to pressure the accused to give more share of liquor to drink.

On that night, they drank liquor and went to their houses. Around 12 in the midnight of May 16, Sriharsha went to Nagaraju’s house who was lying in his bed following an accident.

The victim Sri Harsha after enquiring about the health, asked him for liquor. Nagaraju and Sriharsha came out of the house and went to a liquor shop at NS Market and drank liquor. They met Rama Siva at the market.

After that Nagaraju gave Rs 100 to Siva to bring the liquor for him. Sriharsha had asked for a bottle of beer and pulled Rs.100 from Shiva. Suddenly, an altercation took place between Sriharsha and Nagaraju.

Meanwhile, Shiva who became furious decided to eliminate Sri Harsha who always used to quarrel with them for more liquor. He took an iron rod and hit Sri Harsha on the head. When he fell, Nagaraju crushed his neck with his leg. Following the indiscriminate beating, Sriharsha died on the spot.

Later, the accused Nagaraju and Shiva fled on a scooter with bloodstained clothes. They left those clothes in their house and left for Rajamahendravaram. And returned to Eluru on Monday night. Based on a complaint, police launched man-hunt and found them, both the accused tried to flee on the scooter of Nagaraju.

However, police chased them and intercepted at Panduranga Talkies area. The DSP said that the accused would be produced before the court. They seized the iron rod used for killing Sri Harsha. One Town Circle-Inspector A Naga Murali and Sub-Inspector N Kishore Babu were also present at the press conference.
