Akiveedu: Though Akiveedu has been credited with Best Panchayat honour, it lacked a dumping yard. With over 50,000 population, Akiveedu is the biggest Panchayat in State.

In spite of all these plus points, the Panchayat is getting unpopular as it irresponsibly throwing garbage on roadside causing inconvenience to a lot of people travelling on the road.

For want of place to dump the garbage, the Panchayat officials use Siddapuram roadside as dumping place for quite some time. As a result, the garbage has been overflowing onto the road.

The people going towards Kolleru lake have been suffering a lot. The stink from the garbage, especially during rainy season, has polluted the fresh air in the area.

The commuters and other road users have to bear the stink for a distance of one km. As the garbage dumped on two sides of the road, it is turning narrow causing traffic problem also.

Whereas the people living near the road are the worst-hit because of the decaying garbage. The residents complain that the dumping proved harmful for their health as they have been developing complications of health.

Villagers informed that the Panchayat owned many waste lands as per records. Such places can be used for dumping yard construction. However, in reality, encroachments dominated the waste areas.

Though revenue officials have the authority to act against encroachers to make way for dumping yards, they are maintaining silence, for reasons better known to them.
