Visakhapatnam: A thirty-year-old prisoner committed suicide by hanging in the Vizag Central jail here on Wednesday. According to sources, the deceased was identified as S Ramana, a native of Ramavaram village in Anandapuram. He was accused of raping a minor girl in 2015. After hearing the case, a local court found him guilty and awarded double life sentence besides imposing fine this month under POCSO Act.
The prisoner looked normal and had his breakfast in the morning as usual. He was assigned work in weaving wing. However, when no one was around the block, he reportedly hanged with the cotton thread. Two inmates noticed him hanging and informed the jail authorities. Body was shifted to KGH for post-mortem. Police registered a case and investigation is on.
