Srikakulam: The negligence of the engineers of the roads and buildings department led to the stagnation of water at the Independence Day venue on the premises of the Government Degree College here on Wednesday. Due to incessant rains during the past three days, rain water remained stagnated at the venue.

Earlier, officials from Amaravati visited the venue and suggested to the local R&B engineers to lay BT road by digging the ground two feet underneath. However, the engineers did not heed it and laid the road on the surface of the ground without digging. As a result, rain water stagnated on the ground. Before the arrival of the Chief Minister at the venue, they pumped out the water with power motors.
