Amaravati: In a bid to woo the Backward Classes, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said that to repay gratitude to the BCs, who were the back-bone of the party, he would organise a two-day convention - Jayaho BCs - on the lines of Mahanadu at Rajamahendravaram in the fourth week of October.

The Chief Minister, who recalled the unstinted support of the BCs to the Telugu Desam Party since its inception, said the BC convention would be called ‘Desamlo Sagam – TDP tho Manam’.

Speaking at the Telugu Desam Legislature Party executive meeting at his Undavalli residence, Naidu wanted party workers to become election-ready by focusing on party programmes at the ground level. He reiterated that he will launch unemployment allowance scheme on Gandhi Jayanthi (October 2).

He wanted the leaders to sink their differences and work as one cohesive force to face the YSRCP in the elections. He asked them to keep aside egos and mix with the cadres to instill confidence among them. "Unless you do this, they would not work with renewed vigour," Naidu said and pointed out to the MLAs that they should not forget the responsibility of attending to problems in their constituencies.

He wanted them to make use of Grama Darsini programmes to mix with people and explain to them what the TDP government has been doing for them. Narrating the progress the state had achieved during the last four and half years, the Chief Minister said that despite obstacles created by the Centre, the state stood first in the country on several parameters. The TDP government has more or less fulfilled all the promises made in its manifesto, he said with a sense of satisfaction.

Chandrababu Naidu suggested to the party leaders and cadres to own the party head office by making donations for the construction of new building for it. The minimum amount could be even Rs 10, he said, showing the blueprint of the building to them. By making donations one would have a sense of belonging to the office, he said.

The party office will come up in 2 lakh sq ft area, five times the size of NTR Trust Bhavan in Hyderabad and having three blocks. It would be completed by February. Naidu, lashing out at the YSRCP for deciding to boycott the Monsoon session of the Assembly, wanted to know why they were taking salaries without attending the session.

“They are taking salaries, perks and were utilising all privileges without doing any work," he said. He said the YSRCP leaders were not being accountable to the people who elected them. "The YSRCP MPs don’t go to Parliament. They ran away from Parliament when it was time to fight with the BJP. They don’t attend Assembly.

They never discuss public issues. Isn't it sheer irresponsibility? he asked, describing the YSRCP leaders as “rowdies” creating problems in the state. He referred to the trouble created at ‘Nara Hamara- TDP Hamara’ convention and said it was “rowdies” in the garb of Muslims who were responsible for it and all of them were sent by the YSRCP.

Attacking the BJP, Naidu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed on all fronts. He said the economy of the country was on a downward spiral due to ill-advised economic policies of the Centre.

He referred to the demonetisation experiment and how it failed to flush out black money. The NDA, while leaving AP to its fate, on the other hand, was helping neighbouring Telangana by giving clearances to the projects just for the asking, he said.
